Cupping & Gua sha

About Cupping

Cupping therapy creates suction and a vacuum, decompressing muscles and connective tissue. The aim of cupping is to relieve pain by mobilizing blood flow to the affected area, encouraging the body’s natural healing properties.
WHAT CAN CUPPING BE USED FOR?

Cupping can be used to:
• Provide pain relief
• Reduce inflammation
• Increase blood flow
• Support healthy skin
• Improve respiratory conditions
• Decrease muscle recovery time

About Gua Sha (myofascial release)

Gua Sha is a traditional technique in which a tool made of jade, bone, quartz or metal is used to rub or ’scrape’ specific areas of pain or tightness. This treatment increases local blood circulation to the injured area, promotes tissue and joint mobilization, increases range of motion and releases areas of adhesions in the fascia. Gua Sha also helps break up tight fibrotic myofascial bands and scarring, facilitating tissue repair and reducing pain. The word ‘sha’ means the petechia (red markings) that appear on the skin from the treatment.
WHAT CAN GUA SHA BE USED FOR?

Gua sha can be used to:
• Reduce and break up muscle tension
• Increase blood circulation
• Break down scar tissue
• Decrease pain
• Improve mobility and flexibility
• Alleviate colds, asthma and allergies
• Bring more oxygen and nutrients to the body tissues
Patients often report an immediate reduction in pain following the treatment.
