Gua Sha

Gua ShaGua Sha is a traditional Chinese medical treatment where the skin is lightly scraped to reduce pain and break up muscle adhesions. Gua means “to scrape” and Sha refers to the stagnant blood (petechiae) that comes to the surface during treatment. To do this, a smooth-edged sterile tool such as a ceramic soup spoon or metal cap is used to lightly “scrape” the skin in order to move stagnant blood and lymph from the subcutaneous fascia; this allows the body to release stagnation and toxins from injured areas. Gua Sha is extremely effective in the treatment of pain, fever, or signs and symptoms of catching a cold, as it stimulates the immune system.
